I started watching F. R. I. E. N. D. S after a lot of pressure from Cousin. She was like, “Why don’t you try watching the series?”

Then after a lot of arguments and discussions, I finally decided to watch it. Episode 1, I hated it. Couldn’t understand much about what was happening and the laugh track was annoying. Then she persuaded me so much that I decided to give it a try again for one last time. I watched 4,5 episodes that day. I laughed my heart out, I swear! Then I started watching a few episodes every day.

How it all started

Friends is an American television sitcom. It was aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. The show revolves around six friends in their 20s and 30s who live in Manhattan, New York City. The series broke a lot of taboos that were prevailing in society.

Friends was a massive success during its initial 10-season run but, like a lot of sitcoms of its generation, some aspects have become outdated, and might not hold up by today’s entertainment standards. The series broke different kinds of taboo (some are still taboo in India). All those things gave a new perspective into youngsters mind.

Things “Friends” taught

“Friends” were potentially ahead of its time by having so many of its central characters being so closely affiliated with members of the LGBTQ community. On the other, a lot of their interactions with, and conversations about, those characters would probably be met with backlash if they happened today because they tended to be pretty homophobic.

Phoebe is a surrogate mother. Rachel is a single mother. Monica and Chandler adopted kids. Ross was three times divorced. Carol and Susan were lesbian couples. Chandler’s father is gay. Mark and Mrs Knight married in huge age difference. Apart from these serious issues, they talk about how friends

1. Life is not always fair.
2. There is no bad time for starting over.
4. How you can be broke but still manage to be happy.
6. Never be ashamed of being weird or different.
7. Never lose the kid inside you.

Those who have not watched FRIENDS… you are missing huge things…. Thanks to my cousin for pressuring me to watch.
