Prakash Raj made his film debut under the genius K.Balachander. It was a negative role in the Tamil film Duet in 1994. After that, he has gone on to act in several films in all the south Indian languages and Hindi. He is one of the most versatile actors.
Antagonist
Prakash Raj is mostly cast as the antagonist or in a negative role in many of his movies. His perfect characters are Mayil Vaahanam from Singam. Everloving Muthupandi from Ghilli. He has unique energy in whatever roles they play. Keeping aside his antagonist roles, like fighting on screen in the films Ghilli, Singham, Venghai, Vanavil and so on.
Direction
Various other films helped him to stay in the hearts and minds of his audiences. In the movies like “Chokka Thangam” and “Thiruvilayadal”, he will be dancing effortlessly. In the movie, “Un Samayal Araiyil”, the climax portion stages a beautiful moment. A hero is not necessary to be fit, he can be good in heart. through this film, Prakash Raj directed this movie. The montage shots of food and love attract the audience. I’m listing my favourites.
Iruvar
The movie is about two great leaders in Tamil Nadu. Prakash Raj brings the wit and wisdom of M. Karunanidhi through his speeches. The effort to create a separate identity as a leader who championed regional identity fascinated me. He made me love him even more. He acted in this movie while he did not speak much Tamil. Even those things will not be explicitly seen in the movie.
Kannathil Muthamittal
Prakash Raj comes into the film after an hour. When Amudha says, she wants to meet her mother. Vikramsingh (Prakash Raj) says, who is this by pointing to Simran. Amudha says she is not my mother. That close-up shot is more than enough to explain his acting skills. A few scenes later, we find Vikramsingh and Thiruchelvan (Madhavan) discussing war. After those scenes, Prakash Raj, Madhavan and Pasupathy would appear. Each of these actors has done a fabulous role. Those close cuts on Vikram’s eyes, speak more words. If you have not watched the movie, watch it. My favourite movie.
Appu
“Maharani”, a malicious villain. He portrays himself as a transwoman, who owns a prostitution house. He is the film’s villain. Still, he plays the character with self-awareness. It renders Maharani both human and not-so-human.
Okay Kanmanii
Prakash Raj’s character arc is an important one. More than Adhi and Tara, I loved his arc. His character defines love in the movie. Everyone has to find their love. Being in a live-in relationship does not end the ideology of marriage. It’s another kind of commitment. A live-in relationship has one basic thing. They do not have to comprise their passion for one another. Marriage is an understanding, a share of love, life and journey with one another. They can be in the same room. They can have their way of life. This is what the movie shows.
From the beginning of the film, Adhi and Tara feel marriage has a burden. But marriage is an understanding between two people. This message expresses itself through Ganapathy and Bhavani, Prakesh Raj and Leela Samson. Later we find Adhi and Tara marrying after witnessing Ganapathy and Bhavani love.
Mozhi
The role is a joy to watch. The screenplay is well aided by some extremely witty dialogue. Most of Prakash Raj’s dialogue and arc ends with a comical tone. character. The ‘gimmick’ of light bulbs coming on and bells ringing to signify the men falling in love has one smiling each time it happens. To think this was the same year he played the creepy Ali Bhai in Vijay’s Pokkiri. He pulled two different roles in the same year.
Happy birthday PrakashRaj sir.
