Hamlet was written probably in 1600. Hamlet ushers in a distinct phase of Shakespeare’s development as a dramatist. Hamlet has, over the centuries, stretched the limits of dramatic representation to impinge on culture the way that myth does. Hamlet owes more to the revenge tradition and has less to the tradition of Morality than any other of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. The play contains passages of brilliant poetry.

Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, encounters what purports to be the ghost of his father. The ghost reveals to him that his usurping uncle achieves his crown by murdering him. So the ghost imposes the duty of revenge upon his son. Hamlet symbolizes revenge and the object of revenge.

The Lion King

The Lion King is an American, animated Musical film, directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The movie is produced by Walt Disney production. The story takes place in the kingdom of Lions in Africa. This is a Coming of age story of a Lion cub named Simba, who is next in line to succeed his father a benevolent and wise king of ‘Circle of Life. But King Mufasa’s young evil brother, Scar, covers the throne and plots to eliminate both Mufasa and Simba so he may become King. Scar sets a trap for his brother and nephew, he informs Mufasa about Simba’s peril where Mufasa saves his son but ends up hanging perilously from George’s edge. Scar refuses to help Mufasa instead sending him falling to his death. Simba goes out of the Kingdom for being the reason for Mufasa’s death. Years later Simba returns to Pride Lands to avenge his father’s death and restore his kingdom in Pride Lands. (5.1)

Evolution of The Lion King

During the conversation of The Lion King, the setting of a story was planned in Africa. Jeffrey Katzenberg immediately came up with the idea of adding elements involving Coming of age, death and ideas from personal life experience. He says the film is about some of his trials in his bumpy road in politics, and also comments, “It is a little bit about myself”. The movie was entitled earlier as ‘King of the Beast’ in the draft. But later it was re- entitled as ‘King of the Jungle’. The original version of the film was very different from the final output of the film. The script was redone and the title was changed to “The Lion King” and the setting shifted from Jungle to ‘Savannah’.

The Lion King as Hamlet

The Lion King is the first Disney animated feature to be an original story rather than be based on existing work. Later Filmmakers realized and said that the story of The Lion King was inspired by the lives of Joseph and Moses from the Bible and William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Both Simba and Hamlet are Princes who are guilt and sad about their father’s death. Murderous uncle Scar and Claudius kill their brother for the throne, fake an innocent accident. The appearance of the Father, as Ghost, motivates Prince Simba and Hamlet to take revenge for King’s death and throne.
