‘Love genre’ – always fascinates me. The way media content flows between people, transferring ideas, emotions, and worldviews in tandem. They trying to give an impression human mind. They sprinkle various themes one after the other. Often these themes migrate to various languages. In India, almost all the movies twine with romance.

Love genre – Indian Movies

Indian movies run with romance as their backbone. We have special scenes to introduce love into the film. ‘Mozhi’ comically brings the light and bell effect into the filmy world. Movies sometimes have a male lead running and chasing the female lead. They chase, chase and chase until the female lead accepts their proposal. To bring change to this formula, few directors opted for a vice versa way. The female lead chases the male lead.

Female and Male lead

At one point in time, the male lead moves forward in the movie. The female lead stays still. The responsibility of the female lead is to motivate the male lead. They often come up with various song numbers and costumes as a part of encouragement. The love and film stay intact. Various memes were bringing this concept into the real world. Writers are playing huge roles to make these love scenes intact in the mind of the audience. The screenwriter knows to set the stage and the lyric writer knows to lit the mind. Love movies or songs are often quoted amidst people and their conversations.

Love genre – VTV & SMS

Love genre
VTV

There are two movies, I feel like mentioning. They are VTV aka Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya and SMS aka Siva Manasula Shakthi. The main themes of these two movies are love. These two films are different in their genre.  They handle love differently.  Among these two films, ‘VTV’ sounds filmy and ‘SMS’ sounds funny. In the movie Siva Manasula Shakthi, the lead pair go neck to neck fight. Create all sorts of trouble and live with it. Vinnai Thandi Varuvaiya is not like that. When we look into VTV, we might hear a lot of comments like “a movie genuinely portrays love.” There are many laurels and honours for this movie. The dialogues will melt each and everyone’s heart. VTV sounds poetic and much with words and so on.

The truth behind the love genre

There is a secret truth behind these two movies. They are not realistic. Real love stories are extremely boring to an extent. Real love stories, cross refer songs and movies to highlight or elevate their emotions. They will sound emotional, enjoying, loving, beautiful and blah blah … to the ones who are into each other.  Whosoever listens to this, will find this as cringe or stupid or sometimes annoying. But movies make these emotions beautiful. While watching these movies, we either imagine these scenes and emotions or feel desperate about these scenes.

In the end, these kinds of movies make their audience voyeuristic. Making the audience feel deprived of those emotions. Wishing the same scene to happen in real life is a sort of horror. Expecting too much sometimes turns into disappointment, toxicity or predators.
