Dr K V Balasubramanian is a retired Meteorologist from Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai. He has been writing science articles for the last 15 years since 2006 in Arivial Oli (monthly magazine), Arivial Poonga (quarterly magazine), Arivukkan (monthly magazine), Ariga Arivial (monthly magazine) and other magazines. He has received the Nellai. Su. Muthu Award for Best Child Science Writer at the 45th Book Fair Opening Ceremony on 16 February 2022 in Chennai. The award was presented by Honourable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin.
Dr K.V. Balasubramanian has got an M.Sc. degree in Physics, an M.A. degree in Tamil as well a History, M. Phil. Degree and PhD degree both in Tamil. He has done research about the Meteorological Information in Sangam Literature for his PhD thesis. He has written books on Mukkanigal, Earth Quake, Pancha Poodangal, the Great Six Animals, The Science information in Kambaramayanam, two books on Meteorology and several books on Tamil literature. He has a youtube channel called “Balavin Kural”.
All his books are meant for students who are studying in schools and colleges. Though he knows to read, write and speak in three languages – viz. Tamil, English and Hindi – he writes mostly in Tamil only. In fact, he has written a book in Hindi. He has been given an award called “Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar” for writing an article in Hindi from the President of India in 2015. He has received an award viz. “Treasure Trove of Science” from Mayilai Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam, Chennai.
In recognition of his writings in Tamil in the field of science for children, he has been now given the Nellai. Su.Muthu Award for Best Child Science Writer.
