Harry James Potter is a fictional character. He is the titular protagonist in J.K. Rowling’s series of eponymous novels. The novel titled after the centre character is known as the eponymous novel. The majority of the books’ plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Harry. Harry later learns ‘who he is, on his eleventh birthday through Hagrid. Hagrid says to him that, “He is a wizard.”

Harry attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to practise magic under the guidance of the headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Harry also discovers that he is already famous throughout (the novel’s) magical community. His fate is tied with Lord Voldemort – the feared Dark Wizard and murderer of his parents, Lily and James Potter.

The film and book series revolves around Harry’s struggle to adapt to the wizarding world and defeat Voldemort. Harry is considered a fictional icon and has been described by many critics, readers, and audiences as one of the greatest literary and film characters of all time.

Why did Voldermort kill Harry’s parents?

One of the Voldemort followers overhears Sybill Trelawney’s prophecy. He warns Voldermort about that. But unfortunately, he hears only half of the prophecy. Sybill Trelawney’s first prophecy, also known as the Lost Prophecy or simply The Prophecy. It refers to the prophecy made by Sybill Trelawney to Albus Dumbledore at the Hog’s Head Pub early in 1980. It referred to a boy who would be born at the end of July in 1980. He who has the power to defeat Lord Voldemort (which Voldemort took to mean Harry Potter). It is referenced at the end of the Second Wizarding War. It is public knowledge and named “The Big One”, in respect of the prophecy and the sequenced events from it.

We could find the prophecy in the final book, “Deathly Hallows”, Chapter-36. The prophecy says:

“The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies… and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not… and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives… the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies….” (Sybill Trelawney’s prophecy made to Albus Dumbledore)

The prophecy has three conditions

  1. The boy’s parents should have defied Voldemort. Harry’s parents defied to stay under Voldermort. Stay under in sense, as followers.
  2. “The Dark Lord will mark him equal”, James and Lily Potter, Harry’s parents did not allow Voldermort to take the boy. So Voldermort kills them. When he tries to kill Harry, he lives with a scar.
  3. The boy “will be born as the seventh month dies”,  which means the end of the seventh month. The seventh month is July and the month has 31 days. So the month ends on 31st July.

Happy Birthday Harry James Potter

You(Harry) are born at the end of July. J.K. Rowling created Harry as an Orphan because she wants him to long for his dead parents. Her own mother died on 30 December 1990. She inspired Rowling to write Harry as a boy longing for his dead parents. Harry’s anguish becoming “much deeper, much more real” than in earlier drafts because Rowling related him to herself.  Rowling did not stop by creating such a beautiful character. She revived and encouraged a lot more people to create a habit of reading. Rowling holds that credibility for having a huge following. She took her titular character to her heart so she gave her date of birth to him. J. K. Rowling was born on 31.07.1965.
