Ravi glanced down at the scattered pages, the holder glaring up at him like warning lights. For a heartbeat, guilt pricked at the edge of his mind. Then he shook his head. “This isn’t my problem,” he muttered, shoving the papers back into the briefcase. “I’ve had a long day. Someone else can deal with this.”

He stood, dusting off his pants, and started down the dimly lit street toward home. The night air felt cooler now, almost too cool. The silence had a strange weight to it, as if the city itself was holding its breath.

Halfway down the lane, a faint shimmer caught his eye, just ahead, slightly to the right. It wasn’t a light in a window or the gleam of metal. It was a

perfect circle of brightness, hovering a few inches above the ground, spinning ever so slightly, unsupported by anything.

Ravi stopped. The circle pulsed gently, casting a soft glow on the cracked pavement. He looked behind him, the street was empty, still, as if he’d stepped out of time. A memory of the mysterious door flashed through his mind. Was this another doorway? A warning? Or was he simply exhausted, his eyes playing tricks on him?

The circle’s hum grew louder, a faint vibration that seemed to echo in his chest. He took a cautious step closer, then another. The papers and files, the statistics, the message, nagged at him for an instant, but he pushed the thought aside. Whatever this was, it was out of his control. Or was it?

The glowing circle brightened, its edges sharpening. Ravi reached out instinctively, his fingers trembling. The world seemed to lean in, waiting for his choice.

Ravi stopped.

The circle pulsed. Light spilled onto the cracked pavement. He turned around. The street behind him was empty. There were no cars and no people. Time felt paused. A memory of the glowing door flashed through his mind. His heart thudded. He stepped closer. The moment his foot crossed the edge of the circle, the world shifted.

Inside, shapes moved. There were strange things happening around hims. Bags walked on their own. Water bottles rolled, then stood upright. Food scraps slid across the ground, finding their place. Waste moved like it knew where it belonged. Everything sorted itself. Nothing was lost. Nothing was thrown anywhere without care.

Ravi walked slowly. The ground felt soft under his feet. He watched a crushed cup fold itself and slip into a bin. A leftover packet melted into compost. A bottle rolled into reuse. There were no rush and mess. This is how it should be, he thought. Then his foot caught on something.

He stumbled forward. The ground tilted. His balance broke. Ravi fell hard. The light flickered. The circle trembled. Ravi hit the ground, heart racing, breath sharp. The world went quiet again.
