Life is Short, Make it Simple.
I normally hate watching soap operas. It can be in any language, I will not make an effort to watch. When I was doing UG, Korean serials were popular. I had a classmate, who watches all the episodes of various serials and reaches class with red-eye. I used to ask her to sleep for at least an hour every morning. But she calmly replies, not possible. Also, I have a lot of friends who used to watch Tamil Serials. Like, “Kana kanum kalangal”, “Saravanan Meenakshi” and many other soap operas. I remember, Kolgal, Metti Oli and Chitti only because of their title card song.
Tamil Soap Operas
Tamil television soap operas or Tamil serials are a popular genre of Tamil language television produced in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore. All major TV networks in India produce a variety of drama series. They include family, comedy, romance, history stories, horror, devotional, fantasy stories and many others. Tamil serial started to broadcast television series in the 1990s. Today’s format of 100–500 episodes started in the 2000s. They are usually shown on Tamil television channels. They start at 11:00 to 15:00 (daytime), 18:00 to 19:59 (early fringe) and every night at 20:00 to 23:00 (primetime). A serial will run for about three or four years. it may air five or six episodes a week. The pattern usually is Monday through Friday or Monday through Saturday.
Why I don’t like Tamil Soap Operas?
I actually don’t like watching Tamil soap operas. To say in a precise manner, I don’t like watching serials. I might start watching something because of my friend’s words, but I can’t sit and watch them. So I will end up changing channels. I personally feel that two things happen in each and every serial. Either a character will say, “I will not let her live” or “She should not live”, dialogue. The rest of the plot concentrates on destroying another person’s life.
Kasalavu Nesam
This is a serial. But I am not considering this as a serial in the first place. . There are 84 episodes, running time is 22-26 mins. The director of this serial is K. Balachander. So this serial has a lot of viewers. Actually, this is not even a serial for me. It’s like a movie, for that we have to remove a few things and scenes. If we do this, it is a commercial movie. I can assure you that. This serial, “Kasalavu Nesam” includes many things. They have jokes, close up shots, supernatural elements, a message and a lot of idioms.
